Award-winning veggie/vegan food coming to Ryton Organic Gardens

Fresh Rootz have built a strong reputation for providing a delicious blend of world foods brought back from their experience of travelling and catering around the world. They pride themselves on using locally sourced fresh produce to provide not just “5 a day”, but at least 7. And in 2013, Fresh Rootz’s fantastic food was recognised when they won the BBC Good Food Show Award for best Midland Street Food.

Garden Organic is excited about this new development at Ryton Organic Gardens. James Campbell, Chief Executive of Garden Organic, said:  “The food and ethos of Fresh Rootz fits perfectly with what we are trying to achieve at Ryton Organic Gardens. Their recipes are built around fresh, local food that is not only fantastically tasty, but good for you too.  We know that being able to enjoy fresh, healthy food and drink is important to our visitors and members, and we strongly believe that this new catering provision will take us one step closer to the vision we all share for the future of Ryton Organic Gardens.”

Martyn Phazey from Fresh Rootz is equally as enthusiastic about the partnership. “We plan on using the produce grown in the gardens within our recipes, with a new seasonal dish every day. We are also creating a relaxed indoor space for people to enjoy the food, with wonderful views out into the gardens. We’ve been looking for a venue to open a café but could never have imagined finding somewhere as beautiful as Ryton Organic Gardens.”

To tie in with Garden Organic’s strong organic beliefs, Fresh Rootz will be working towards the Food For Life Partnership catering mark, on the road to attain full organic status. “We think it’s important to support a new organisation to become fully organic, further growing the network of individuals and businesses moving in this direction.” commented James Campbell.

To celebrate Fresh Rootz opening the new cafe at Ryton Organic Gardens, the gardens will be open free to all visitors on both Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March - Mothers’ Day. On Saturday the visitors centre and indoor exhibition space will be open alongside the gardens and café, on Sunday it will be the gardens and café open only.  For more information on visiting Ryton Organic Gardens, including opening times, please click here.
